Uniform corrosion is identifiable by visual examination and proceeds by a chemicalelectrochemical
reaction uniformly over the surface of an object. There is no distinguishable macroscopic area of the metal surface which is solely anodic or cathodic. Uniform corrosion attack is mostly found where a metal is in contact with an acid, a humid atmosphere or a solution in general.

● Occurs randomly and uniformly across an entire surface.
● Is usually predictable and avoidable.
● Is caused by a chemical and/or electrochemical reaction involving environmental elements on a metal surface.
● Usually requires the presence of oxygen and moisture.

- Storage tanks
- Pipelines
- Structural steel
- Outdoor equipment exposed to weather
How to Control Uniform Corrosion ?
Uniform corrosion may be controlled in a variety of ways, including:
- Metallurgical means – use a different metal or alloy.
- Cathodic protection.
- Applying protective coatings.
- Use of corrosion Inhibitors.
