Sliding Abrasion

This is a type of abrasion that is seen when hard solid particles move across another surface that results in loss of material from the softer surface. The particles result in a cutting or ploughing effect on the opposite surface.


Key properties of Sliding Abrasive Wear:

  • Low angle of impact to surface
  • Primarily solids flow
  • Low load
  • Moderate to high velocity

Typically seen on Piping, Pneumatic transport lines and Vanes on screw augers.
